Newcomer Information Sessions
International House Helsinki (IHH) organises regular Newcomer Information Sessions, providing useful information for those who are planning to move or have recently moved to the Helsinki capital region.
All sessions are free and open to those who are either moving to Finland for work or business, or due to family ties. Each session is held in English and takes place online.
During our Newcomer Information Sessions, we cover topics like:
- The steps international newcomers need to take before and after arriving
- Handling public authority-related matters
- How to enjoy life in the Helsinki capital region
- Housing, public transport and local health care system
- Support available for partners and spouses
- Education system, daycare and schooling
- Services for jobseekers and entrepreneurs
- Employee rights and unionization
- Earnings-related insurance system and telework
Sessions are organised regularly, but their content varies. On alternating months, we focus on general topics to help international newcomers and their families with relocation matters. On the other months, we provide worklife information for jobseekers, employees, and entrepreneurs.
You are welcome to attend one or many sessions, or only join for the sections that appeal to your needs. You can find more detailed information about the content of each session on our Events page or via the links listed below.
Newcomer Information Sessions will feature presentations from:
- International House Helsinki
- Helsinki Partners
- The City of Helsinki’s Education Division
- The Spouse Program
- Business Helsinki
- Akava and SAK
- The Finnish Centre for Pensions
Please note our Newcomer Information Sessions are designed to fit the needs of international newcomers and prospective newcomers who are moving to the capital region based on work, business or family ties.
