You are invited to our next New in Helsinki event!

From exploring the magic of Helsinki in winter to mastering self-care during the colder months, and finally, building a strong network in Finland — this event is your chance to get inspired, learn and meet new people. After the presentations and guided networking, you will get a chance to create your own candle design in our candle painting workshop.

This event is jointly organised by the City of Helsinki and the 3AMK alliance, Haaga-Helia, Laurea and Metropolia Universities of Applied Sciences.

Mieli without borders will provide the mental health component in the event.

Meet our speakers

Heidi Johansson works as PR Manager at Helsinki Partners. Born in Vaasa on the west coast of Finland, she has made Helsinki her new home for the past two decades. Heidi studied Literature at the University of Helsinki, with a minor in Intercultural Encounters. As a certified Helsinki guide, she works daily to narrate the city to international journalists, influencers, and delegations visiting Helsinki.


Hope Makara is a licensed sosionomi and one of founders of the organization MIELI Without Borders. She is passionate about mental health and finding everyday ways to care for our well-being. She enjoys supporting others in their integration journey and creating spaces where people feel connected. Having lived in Finland for nearly ten years, she appreciates the rare sunshine, loves handicrafts, and enjoys exploring new foods.


Vejay Nair works as an international affairs specialist and career coach at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. Originally from the United States, they have lived in Helsinki for over nine years and, in 2019, graduated with their master’s degree in Intercultural Encounters from the University of Helsinki. Vejay has previously worked with the City of Helsinki and as a freelance journalist.


Aayush Jain enjoys bringing people together through meaningful experiences and event. He has been active in the Student Union Helga, supporting international student engagement, and has also led volunteer teams at Nordic Business Forum. Aayush believes that everyone can build connections and grow their own network, one conversation at a time.


Zhen Qi is currently pursuing a degree in Software Development. She has served as Head Tutor and Tutor for the past one and a half years. Originally from China, Zhen is passionate about supporting international students. She created an onboarding platform Start with Helga, which was later adopted by Haaga-Helia and earned her a nomination for SAMOK’s Student Act.
