Employment Coaching

Employment Coaching is a service by International House Helsinki (IHH) that provides reliable information and guidance for international professionals new to the job market in the Helsinki capital region.

Employment Coaching is for:

  • Newcomers in the Helsinki region
  • People planning a move to the Helsinki region for work or family ties
  • International students or recent graduates in the Helsinki region

Please note!

IHH does not operate as an employment agency and does not offer jobs or handle job placements. 

IHH Employment Coaching:

  • Is not directly related to the official employment services, but works closely with them
  • Can be used without being registered as a jobseeker
  • Does not involve recruiters during the service or workshops

To officially register as a jobseeker, please check the public employment services.

How to join Employment Coaching

To use Employment Coaching, you will need to:

  • Join a Newcomer Information Session about Working Life
  • Read the International Jobseeker’s Guide
  • Join an employment coaching career group

You can join our Employment Coaching service after using our other resources.

  • Newcomer information sessions about working life are helpful online meetings that provide practical work-related guidance for international jobseekers, employees, and entrepreneurs moving to the Helsinki capital region.

    Topics include job searching, working life, employee rights, social security, career support for partners, and how to start a business.

    You can ask any of your work-related questions during a session.

  • The International Jobseeker’s Guide has essential information and practical tips on navigating the Finnish job market and working in Finland.

    The guide covers how to look for work, employment and working culture, support networks, and even entrepreneurship.

  • After the previous steps, you can use Employment Coaching if you need additional support.

    You can choose from either quick drop-in meetings online or small group trainings in-person.

    Please note that not all coaching formats are always available.

Online Drop-In

Do you have a quick question about job seeking? Our Employment Coaching Online Drop-In gives you the chance to get fast, individual advice – no booking needed!

How it works:

  • Prepare one or two clear job search related questions in advance. You will have a maximum of 15 minutes for your questions.
  • Join the drop-in call (available Wednesdays at 14.00–16.00 Helsinki time) using the link on the event page.
  • Wait for your turn in the virtual meeting room. The coach will let you in when it is your turn.

Career Group

Employment Coaching Career Group is a series of three in-person workshops to help create a roadmap for your job search in Finland.

These small-group workshops bring together up to ten newcomers from diverse backgrounds to learn, practice, and to share experiences. The interactive in-person workshops are an opportunity for you to strengthen your job seeking skills and stay motivated while navigating the Finnish job market.

The workshops combine peer learning and hands-on exercises, offering a supportive space to experiment with new job search strategies. Each workshop focuses on specific themes.

How Career Group works

  • Each Career Group can accommodate up to around 10 participants. Find a suitable group from the list below and sign up using the links provided on this page
  • Every group meets for three interactive workshops taking place over four weeks. Each workshop is two and a half hours
  • Workshops are held in person in central Helsinki and the language is English

  2. Mapping the Terrain: Dive into the local job market, improve and fine-tune tools such as CVs and cover letters
